Babar Azam named new Captain of Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 8

In one of the greatest deals of the season, Zalmi received Haider Ali and Shoaib Malik, who were moving to Karachi Kings in the Platinum and Diamond categories, respectively, in exchange for Babar in the Platinum category and the first selection in the supplemental round.

Wahab Riaz will be replaced as Peshawar Zalmi’s captain for the next Pakistan Super League season by Babar Azam.

Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 8

Since its founding in 2016, Zalmi has enjoyed the most devoted fanbase of any team in the history of the league. Before Hasan decided to depart last year, Daren Sammy, Hasan Ali, Kamran Akmal, and Wahab Riaz had never worn any other colours.

However, there have been some snags, such as the miscommunication with Akmal and the decision to bench their captain Sammy in the middle of the season in order to hire him as the coach.

With 2,413 runs scored in 68 games, the talented right-hander holds the record for most PSL runs scored.

In the PSL 8 draft, which will take place on December 15 in Karachi, Zalmi is looking for 11 players. Along with Babar, they have already added powerful hitter Mohammad Haris, and they have kept Sherfane Rutherford, Aamir Jamal (Brand Ambassador), Salman Irshad, and Tom-Kohler Cadmore.

PSL 8

The PSL 2023 season will take place from February 9 until March 19. Due to Covid-19, there will be four locations used to stage the matches, up from just two in the previous two seasons.

Lahore Qalandars, the defending champions, will make the first choice in the draft, according to the pick order already made public by the PCB.

Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators will be selected second and third, respectively. Karachi Kings and Islamabad United will make the fourth and fifth selections, respectively. Peshawar Zalmi will choose sixth, in the meanwhile.

Babar Azam PSL Journey

Babar’s PSL experience began with Islamabad United in the first season in 2016, however after two games, he was dropped.

He began playing for Karachi Kings the next year, dominating the stats with an average of 43.60 and a strike rate of 121.97 while on route to winning the competition with 2413 runs scored in 68 games.

The squad, led by him as captain, lost nine out of 10 games as his relationship with the organisation began to deteriorate. Imad Wasim will now rule as king.
